We had a great weekend of raising miles for charity at Gadling Labs. Though we were just under our goal of reaching 10,000 Facebook likes to completely empty my frequent flier account with Delta, I’m going to take the plunge and donate the entirety of my miles to UNICEF anyway.
Big thanks to Delta Air Lines for stepping up, reaching out to the team and matching our donation. Hopefully the buzz that we generate during this effort solicits other donations from frequent fliers around the world.
I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my old boss and colleague Arianna Huffington and travel writing guru Nomadic Matt for making matching donations. Each will be digging into their personal frequent flier accounts to contribute.
In case you missed it, our weekend initiative was built to raise awareness for mileage donation programs among the airline industry, including Delta’s SkyWish charities, Operation Hero Miles at American Airlines and the program at United. It’s a great way to get rid of orphaned miles before they expire or make a charitable donation at any point in your travels.
And if you get the chance, stop by our Facebook page to check out some of the travel inspiration we have cooking. It’s still growing, but we’re proud of what we’ve built.
