Ski resort offers Valentine’s Day speed dating on the lift

Are you a lonely skier looking for love this Valentine’s Day? If so, the Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, located in Utah, just might be able to help you find that special someone you’ve been looking for. Next Tuesday, February 14, the resort will play host to a unique speed dating event, during which skiers and snowboarders will get a chance to get to know one another while riding the chairlift up the mountain.

To entice single skiers and riders to visit Snowbird for Valentine’s Day, the resort is offering all-day adult lift tickets for just $40. But that is just the start of the fun, as they’ve also designated one of their lifts, the aptly named Peruvian Express, as “single’s only” for the day. Speed-daters will then have the opportunity to hop on the lift together, chat on their way to the summit, and then ski back down the slope. If a love connection is made, they can elect to spend the rest of the day getting to know one another better, or simply get back on the lift and give it another go. At the end of the day, they can also gather at the singles social in the El Chanate restaurant, where the new Snowbird love-birds can enjoy two-for-one appetizers and entrees.

If you’ve already found your significant other, Snowbird has you covered as well. The resort is offering specials for couples looking for a romantic escape, with packages including options for a romantic dinner, a visit to the spa, and a night’s stay at one of the onsite lodges.

And in case you’re wondering about the conditions on the hill, never fear. Snowbird has had more than 170 inches of powder already this winter, and is maintaining a base of 63 inches as well. In other words, it is business as usual, with plenty of great skiing on tap.

So, whether you’re looking to treat your sweetie to a romantic getaway, or meet a new one on the slopes, Snowbird has you covered for Valentine’s Day this year.

Single for Valentines Day? Try speed dating on a ski lift!

Saddleback ski resort, located near Rangeley, Maine, has come up with a unique way for single skiers and snowboarders to meet that special someone this Valentine’s Day. On Monday, the resort will host a speed dating event which will run all day long and give would-be lovers the opportunity to get to know one another while riding the double chairlift to the top of the mountain.

The festivities will get underway at 9 AM Monday morning with two lines forming near the lift, one for the guys and one for the ladies. When the empty chair comes along, one person from each line will hop on and take the ride to the top, giving them the opportunity to chat along the way. After the short ride to the summit comes to an end, the pair can decide to ski back to the bottom together, and elect to either return to the speed dating line in search of a more compatible connection or head to the lodge to get to know one another better. The event will cost just $25 and includes a lift pass for a full day on the slopes.

Saddleback hasn’t forgotten the couples who are already happily paired up either. The married set can come enjoy the $25 lift tickets too, and at 1 PM they can renew their vows at the top of the mountain in a mass ceremony that is sure to appeal to the romantic ski bum in all of us.

The whole concept of speed dating on a ski lift sounds like it is full of hilarious potential. On the one hand, if you meet someone you like, that ride to the top of the mountain will fly by and you’ll be happily shredding the slopes together in no time. But on the other hand, if the connection isn’t a good one, that ride could feel like an eternity. Heaven forbid the lift should malfunction, leaving you stranded with your new friend for hours on end.

Speed-dating at 35,000 feet in Europe

Catherine recently talked about finding love at the airport and the popularity of online social networking to meet someone while hauled-up at the airport.

But, if you want to skip the whole courage building process to approach the hottie you saw whilst boarding, or want immediate interaction with not one, but plenty of singles looking for in-flight spice, Central Europe’s low-budget airline Sky Europe will organize a speed-dating session for you mid-air. “Come with a bright smile and look forward to a great trip”, I had to laugh when I read that in its list of guidelines.

So far the Sky Dating service has been offered on Sky Europe flights to Italy, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands. It works like any other speed-dating service: you get 5-minutes with every person signed up and results are emailed 3 days post event. Unfortunately, you can’t sign-up for it on a spontaneous whim, you have to register for it in advance.

If you want to travel especially to meet someone, you can get the Sky Date package to a European capital. Trips are normally 1-3 days, your accommodation is taken care of and city tours will be organized, all with the idea of getting you hooked to someone on the trip. According to a recent article on MSNBC: on the last Sky Date flight – which combined speed-dating with overnight hotel stay and guided city tour, three couples were formed by the end of the trip.

Hmmm. Excuses for being single are running out way too fast! :)
