Explore the world with Trazzler’s new iphone app

Trazzler’s new free iPhone app, called Trazzler, allows people to explore the world through their smartphone.

When the program first opens, users will be asked to take a short quiz that will allow the app to get to know their personality. The test consists of a series of images in which the user will be prompted to click the photos that appeal to them the most. Through the user’s answers, Trazzler can delve deeper into the personality of the user and figure out who they are most compatible to travel with as well as ideal destinations that fit the personality type.

Like a social network, this app makes it easy for you to find your friends who are also using Trazzler and see how well you would fit as traveler partners. Not only that, but users will also be able to read expert recommendations on travel.

The app seems to be getting a lot of attention, as last week more than 30,000 iPhone users downloaded Trazzler. To download the app for yourself, click here. The app is also available on the iPad and iPod Touch.

Win big with Trazzler’s travel writing contests

Do you ever read Gadling and say “I can do that”? Well, travel website Trazzler is looking for new talent. This July and August they’re accepting submissions for their On the Road Writing Contest.

They’re looking for short (about 65-120 words) pieces about “the in-between places, quirky attractions, scenic drives, irresistible pitstops, natural oases, sleepy forgotten towns, places of pilgrimage, roadside enigmas. . .” You get the picture. Prizes include free stays at luxury Fairmont hotels and freelance contracts to write for Trazzler. If you want to break into the crazy business of writing, a paying contract is a damn good prize.

To get some inspiration, check out their writing guidelines and some of the sample entries on the website. Don’t forget to read the rules carefully! A consistent complaint editors and judges have is that writers don’t read submission guidelines carefully enough, leading to otherwise good entries getting rejected.

Trazzler is also hosting a Smart Travel Writing Contest and the Mendocino Writing Contest. Both have some cool prizes. It looks like Trazzler is the place to be for budding travel writers.

Did the latest episode of Travel Talk inspire you to dive with whales? Love to travel and learn about the environment at the same time? Then break out your typewriter, because Trazzler has great opportunity for you!

Trazzler is partnering up with Seacology, an award-winning eco-friendly charity, to offer two contestants a 10-day trip on the South Pacific island of Tonga. The winners will voyage aboard one of the world’s top dive and snorkel boats, the NAI’A – in one of the few locations in the world where humans can swim with humpback whales.

So what do you need to do in order to win this trip of a lifetime? In less than 160 words, share an experience that highlights ‘smart travel’. As travelers, we have the opportunity to do good and go deeper; to volunteer, get embedded in local culture, pursue environmentally friendly modes of travel or lodging, or promote economic growth in developing regions. This is smart travel, and Trazzler wants to hear your smart travel stories.

There’s no official deadline; the contest will be over when the community reaches milestones that are measured by sharing, number of participants, and new facebook / twitter followers. Check out the official contest rules for complete information!

How do you enter? Submit a story about a city that you love which corresponds with one of five themes; “Foodie Temples“, “Love in the City“, “LGBT Icons“, “Neighborhood Spots“, or “Only in SF“. If you choose the fifth theme, it must be about San Francisco, otherwise the destination is up to you!
