Not entirely an adventure travel topic, but it does require some pondering as many of us spend a
lot of time on the road. I know I do.
AOL Autos seems to have some pretty good topics when it comes
to hitting the road. Last I visited I discussed their piece on vanity plates, but this time it’s about obnoxious
traffic laws that could use a little bending. For instance, it’s 4:36 AM in the morning on some rural road that
you happen to be driving on and all the lights are red. The only reason you left the house in the first place was
to grab some um… sourdough bread you were having a craving for but, whatever the reason the long wait at the
light is keeping you from satisfaction. No one is around, everyone is asleep and the light won’t change to save
your life. Do you run it?
Most of us probably have, but does it make it right? A rule is a rule isn’t it? Other debatable traffic
topics include red lights that cycle, speeding to pass and another one of my favorites, speeding for good reason.
What is a good reason to speed? Does it require proof? Eric Peters uses an injured child that needs to get
to the hospital ASAP, but what if you’re missing the last few minutes of the NBA play-offs (or any sports
related event), have a small case of diarrhea, or forgot you left something cooking on the stove and just
remembered? (Didn’t say it was pretty folks.) Any of those good enough?
Any rules of the road you’d like to see them bend?
