Yellowstone.com

As much as I’ve often raved here about the National Park Service, it is, well, a
government agency, and as such you can pretty much expect the NPS’s Web sites to
suck. They do. I mean it. For being one of our most precious resources, used by millions upon gazillions of people
every year, the national parks deserve Web sites both robust and wonderful. Again. Nope.

But some commercial sites have picked up the slack where the government has dropped the ball, and one of the best ones
I’ve seen is Yellowstone.com. There is so much information and
just plain good content on this site about Yellowstone, that I would make this a “must visit” if I were planning a trip
to the Park. It covers the park’s
history,
outdoor activities,
lodging, and even provides some
nice maps. Aspects of the site are a bit cheesy, like this part on
panning for gold, but along these lines there’s more real gold here than fool’s gold.
