Last Minute Vacation Rentals at Lickety Trip

Got a tip from a gadling reader about
a new site called Lickety-Trip (nice name) that provides information for last
minute vacation rentals. Pretty handy site, even if it still needs some time to flesh itself out.

Using a
Google Maps mashup, the site lets you browse by geographic
location
to find places to stay in other people’s homes. You get the little Google thumbtack to see where
properties are, and then if you click one, you get a small thumbnail and information like specific location and price.
Pretty handy. If you’re an owner, you go to the owner’s section and post your rental…though I didn’t do this since
the site appears to still be in beta.

Personally, I love this idea. On the owner side, I think the whole
vacation home-swapping thing is really cool, and even though I am a bit fearful of allowing complete strangers to use
my apartment, I suppose I have enough faith in the overall goodness of mankind to believe that the average person is
not going to trash your place. And on the renter side, well, I’d much rather live in someone’s apartment for a vacation
than stay in some sterile hotel…although I suppose you wouldn’t have a daily maid to clean up your mess.

So
as I say, the site is still in need of work, but keep an eye on it. It might be a great future resource for you as you
plan your next trip.
