Trying to book a flight to Bangalore, India but can’t seem to find it on a map?
Don’t worry, the Silicon Valley of India has shucked the yoke of foreign imperialism and officially changed its name.
Bangalore, you see, was named by the British when they occupied India. Thanks to people like Gandhi, the British, however, have long since left the Asian subcontinent. Unfortunately, their legacy of anglicized names has remained intact–until now.
Last week, the proud people of Bangalore embraced their local roots and renamed their city with a traditional Kanada moniker: Bengalooru. Locals can now beam with pride over the patriotic change.
I guess no one told them that Bengalooru actually means “Town of Boiled Beans” in the local dialect.
