Open House at Amsterdam’s Red-Light District

In an attempt to curb the bad reputation Amsterdam’s red-light district has garnered over the years, brothels are opening their doors early and allow visitors a look around without having to buy.

“This day is to help break down taboos around prostitution and to create more understanding and respect,” said the events organizer, Jacco Wanders, in a Reuters article.

The open day ended in an “unveiling of a statue to an unknown sex worker, intended to honor those employed in the industry world-wide.” Sound familiar? We covered the, uh, erection of that particular statue in January here on Gadling.
