Prague: Learning Czech

So if you’re headed to Prague, one thing you might
think about is improving your Czech language skills. You basically have two choices: You can immerse yourself for weeks
or months in a class and pick up enough to hang out a while and chat with the locals, or you can learn enough words and
phrases to get yourself a beer, a taxi and maybe a temporary girlfriend/boyfriend (in my opinion, the best way to learn
a language any place, if you’re single).

So how do you do that, you’re asking? For the former alternative,
here is a list of places in Prague where you
can take both extensive and basic Czech classes. These range from
individuals offering help to
places like the European
Language Institute
. Another easier way is to get your hands on a Czech language software package like
this one. Boot up your computer and you’ve got a
Czech language teacher at your click and call.  There are pronunciation guides and quizzes and all sort of other
little skill-building ways to get it done.

Another great site for Czech language online is this one called Bohemica. And
this BBC site has got audio
pronunciation files you can download to hear the proper way to say. Or you can get yourself a handy phrasebook. For
example, Lonely
Planet
offers one to help you get through the basics. And then online, You can buy There is a quick
online phrasebook so you might at least pick up some
of the basics. So good luck and Nashledanou.
