Pitchaya Sudbanthad paints a hilarious guide and how-to from one readers’ question about the
‘gypsy cab’ situation in NYC. You know, the unlicensed cab
driver looking to lend a hand or rip you off. The piece appeared in
the Morning News back in May
2005, but my gut feeling tells me little has changed since and for other tourists headed into the Big Apple
also frightened by New York City transportation this could either scare you more or ease your tensions.
It might even give you a belly-ache from an uncontrollable fit of the giggles, but that could just be me. Anywho, the
writer offers his sympathies towards the taxi drivers stating just how much their services are actually needed. In
short, our Non-Expert of the situation leads me to believe getting ripped off is part of the welcome package.
After a few times or if you’re lucky none at all, you’ll eventually become a pro at mastering NYC unlicensed
transpo.
