Driving the Pan-American

It’s a bit like the vein of a continent, the
Pan-American highway stretches an almost
beyond-the-imagination 15,000 miles down the North, Central and South American Continents, frmo Alaska to Chile. It
winds though mountain passes and along the wave-lapped coast, it becomes a bit of a wreck at certain points, and at
others opens up like a highway should. It is, in short, the globe’s most epic road trip.

It is, as the article says, Central America’s main street.  The Independent’s Simon Calder also
made the trip recently, and took some time to
write about the highway and all the delights, surprises and dangers that await those who have an interest in taking the
Pan-American highway.

The chances are, if you make any trip to Latin America you will touch the highway at some point particularly if you
are traveling in Mexico or Central America. I traveled the highway extensively on my way back from Antarctica to Los
Angeles, and found the many stops along the way always offered something new and interesting.
