I’ve yet to make an
investment in a decent GPS device. Like the ipod, they keep coming out with new models that make me think I should wait
for the next. And then the next. And so on.
So I’ve held off on buing anything in the GPS arena. But I
am now considering plopping down some dough for the
Garmin
Nuvi, a device the company (rather self-servingly) calls "the ultimate travel companion". But such a
grand name is hopefully backed up by something. In this case, that appears so. The Nuni is capable of being a portable
GPS navigator, traveler’s reference, and digital entertainment system. The device provides detailed maps, automatic
routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and finger-touchscreen control. An impressive text reading feature calls out
turns by street name to direct you to your location. Amazingly, it also has an mp3 player, audio book player, JPEG
picture viewer, world travel clock, currency converter, and calculator.
How much will all this set you
back? The 350 unit runs about $970. That’s step, but you get a lot. Still, I may wait for the next
series…who knows what it will have? Maybe a shaver.
