Scott Epic Recreated

It
was almost a hundred years ago that Capt. Robert Scott
was headed to Antarctica believing that he’d be the first man to the South Pole. Alas, no. In one of the greatest
personal disappointments in the history of exploration Scott realized only while the expedition was underway that another team led by Norwegian Roald Amundsen got there first (yeah Norwegians!)

The story
for Scott got worse. Much worse. His team eventually perished way
down South, in one of the worst and most well-known disasters in exploration history. Well people just can’t get enough
of Scott and his team and so last week, five ballsy Brits,
set out to recreate a part of Scott’s journey across Antarctica. The group followed Scott’s
route, which was fairly well documented, these guys being Brits and all, and they apparently even used the same type of
gear that Scott used, including the old wooden sleds and reindeer sleeping bags. Very cool, and very intense. But you
have to admire the effort. They covered over 150 miles of Scott’s original
1,600 mile expedition in 17 days, all in hard core cold temps. And in the end they raised some cashola
for charity.
