Now that Syrian protesters have torched the Danish
and Norwegian embassies in Damascus, I think Albert Brooks can safely answer
what isn’t funny in the Muslim world. Satirical cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad wearing bomb shaped turbans and
running out of virgins for suicide bombers are a big no-no to say the least. The Seattle Times like most
major and small papers right now has a piece on the latest turmoil out East where many Muslims feel as if the cartoon
is an assault on Islam. European papers in Poland, Germany, France, Italy and several other countries published the
drawings in show of solidarity for freedom of speech and Western democratic values. Citizens of both Denmark and Norway
have been warned to avoid the country. Sounds like a smart move and with stories like these I can’t help wondering if
we’ll we ever all get along?
