Africa Travel: Ghana

Not too long ago a friend and I were sitting around picking out which African countries we’d
most like to visit in the different regions and which were probably well-rounded for tourists. When it came time to
choose for west Africa, Ghana received both of our votes. The country’s capital is said to be a little bland, but the
welcoming smiles from the locals instantly ignites the area. Cutting to the chase – Ghana has one of the coolest and
terrifying (if you’re afraid of heights) canopy walkways known to man, least it looks that way from the photos. In fact
it is the first and only canopy walkway in Africa. It is 350 meters in length and 30 meters from the forest floor.
Located in the Kakum Nature Reserve in the central
region near Cape Coast the park was established in 1932 and opened to the public in 1994, which means much of the
wildlife is in tact and good condition. On a good day one will catch sight of Ghana’s indigenous plant life, rare
butterflies, and a number of bird life. On an extremely good day, big game animals which include the bongo and forest
elephant may also make a quick appearance.

The Ghana Tourism site has full
information on visiting the Kakum Nature Reserve and other awesome suggestions for activity during your stay.
