A 27-year-old German man is under investigation by Italian authorities after allegedly phoning in a bomb scare in an effort to delay a flight he was running late for.
Airport authorities in Verona, Italy say the man placed an emergency call at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday saying there was a bomb on board an Air Dolomiti flight bound for Vienna. The flight was scheduled to leave at 11:20 a.m., the Associated Press reports.
Police traced the call to the man’s cell phone. While they have not formally charged him, if they do, and he’s found guilty of making the bomb scare, he could be sentenced to jail for up to one year.
