I suppose it is a big deal…perhaps even a
sign of the apocalypse…but the fact that a whale has swum up the Thames seems to be odd news to splash all over your
front cover. Then again, I know it is something people are curious about, and curiosity begets clicks.
And
so we have the whale rescue story today headlining CNN.com. OK, then. I confess
it is pretty damn interesting and CNN has got some great little interactives and photos of the whale and the rescue
effort. The Brits bought out a barge to ferry the whale back home to open waters, this ending a the cetacean’s 15
minutes of fame. The Northern bottle-nosed whale, which is said to be sick…or just deranged…or just jonseing for
some bangers and mash swam up the river yesterday passed the Houses of Parliament, and has gotten more attention that
the second coming of Princess Di. This is said to be the first sighting of a whale of this type in the river since
records began in 1913.
