Iran Seeking Direct Flights to U.S.

Here’s some pretty surprising news out of
USA Today stating Iran’s President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad request for direct flights out of Tehran to the U.S. The order comes only in response to the demand
of the country’s citizens residing in the U.S. and Canada (some 1 million people of Iranian origin) and is completely
separate from political considerations. Chances of direct flights happening anytime soon are highly unlikely with the
two countries being long time sworn arch-enemies with singed diplomatic relations dating back to 1979 after the Islamic
revolution/hostage situation. If by some great chance the green light is given for Iran’s carriers to fly directly to
the states, Reza Jafarzadeh, civil aviation spokesman states American companies will be able to fly directly into Iran,
naturally.

A trip to Iran and cities Bam, Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, and Persepolis has been one of my
all-time dream destinations. It’s at the very top of my list actually. Direct flights would certainly interest me for
my own selfish reasons, but in the meantime I’ll keep planning my multiple stops and intricate route in getting there.
