Venezuela Bans Two U.S. Airlines

Now might be a good
time to start making other arrangements if you had travel plans all set and tickets in place with Delta and Continental
inroute to Venezuela. Apparently President Chavez and his aviation posse are not exactly thrilled with the U.S. and
well, President Bush and his posse. Unsurprisingly they have managed to slap this ban on two U.S. carriers immediately
amid the rising US-Venezuela tensions where President Hugo Chavez has threatened to cut off oil exports to the U.S.
according to this Chicago Sun-Times piece.
Hmm. However the president of the National Aviation Institute in Venezuela says they are taking action now due to a
similar ban the U.S. placed on some Venezuelan carriers for safety measures. Since then the country claims to have
exhausted all measures to meet safety guidelines and until the U.S. acknowledges improvements the ban will hold tight
to Delta and Continental and restrictions will be placed on American Airlines.
