No Nude Racing?

And just when you were packing your bags and heading
to Kiwiland for the great nude bicycle
race
….it’s been called off. Well almost.

Alas, where can one have a good race in the buff these days
without the prude police, or in this case the actual police, stepping in to ruin all the fun? San Francisco, I guess,
is the last place on earth. OK, maybe not. But here’s the rub.

Turns out the Mayor John Hurley of the
Tasman District wanted to put the ix-nay on ude-nay cycling. Why? Because the nude riders don’t wear helmets on their
heads…or any place else for that matter. Locals have objected because they like nude racers in their hood…and who
wouldn’t, especially in fit New Zealand? It would be another matter entirely if the race were held in, say Iowa.
(just kidding Iowans. I’m just messing with you.)

So it looks for now like the race went ahead this Sunday,
as about 100 people participated in the "clothing optional" race around Golden Bay on the southern tip of New
Zealand’s South Island.

Why do people ride in the nude? Well, have you ever done it? Then you’d know. The
cool sea air blowing twist your privies. Nothing quite like it. Oh, and then there’s the whole environmental
thing…that they ride for safe cycling and alternative energy. Yeah right.
