Top Adventure Lodges

From Austin, Texas to the Palmwag Rhino Camp in the Namib Desert in Namibia, Outside Magazine has listed its top ten adventure lodges around the globe. It’s a wonderfully comprehensive list, globally-speaking, and let me just say that one of my favorite places on earth is counted among them: Torres del Paine.

I know the lodge their talking about here, which is a fine place, but to be honest, the better one is further into the park called Pehoe. Just my opinion, but you can see the Torres themselves right through the window there. It is one of the most beautiful places anywhere.

Limited Time: Abbey Road Film Festival

Here’s a bit of news bound
to get somebody all frazzled, excited, juiced, or down off clicking their
heels to Abbey Road.  The old recording studio for the
legendary Beatles has been a fan site, tourist spot and closed to the public for over 20 years.  Somewhere over
the past two decades someone finally thought to open those doors and let the people in now until April 3.  Yup,
you better get moving.  The doors are being opened to celebrate 25 years of movie scoring and the films to be
shown will all have music recorded at Abbey Road.  Sounds like good times.

The Right Way to Book a Room

For those of you who have ever been greatly disappointed by hotel accommodation in the

past, Seattle Times has got an
article for you.  Not to say that there is anything wrong with your English now, but perhaps it’s time to brush-up
on certain word meanings, look them up or ask a few more questions than you normally would.  After all this is for
your comfort.  Some of the misleading words are suite, spa, fitness facility, ocean view and oceanfront.  And
it’s easy to see where the gray area lies when the article breaks the words down.

Headphones Sans Noise

We ran our own little review of noise-canceling
headphones a while back, with props to the Bose set, but for some cheapies we also recommended the Noise-Busters by
pro-Tech. I’m still using them, and still pretty happy.

In the spirit of providing even more information on these types of headphones,
here is an article on a
similar comparison between the Bose and Sennheiser, both pairs more pricey than the Noise-Busters. Not surprisingly,
she comes down on favor of the Bose, which are sort of the Rolls-Royce of noise-canceling headphones. I’ve been
thinking about getting a pair, but so far my Noise-Busters have done the trick.

Quicksilver Gulps Rossignol

More skiing-related news…with the snap of a binding, Rossignol (I’ve owned several pairs of Rossis over the years)
has been acquired by Quiksilver, the
apparel company who’s growth has been pretty startling over the last half decade. Venturing into ski manufacturing may
seem like a strange row to hoe, but it will seriously diversify Quicksilver in the outdoor sports realm. The price of
the transaction is reportedly $318 million. The new name will be Quiksilver Rossignol. Rossi was in the process of
restructuring because of decreased sales, and Quicksilver, as we say, is on  major expansion binge.
