AOL Travel

Just an FYI…

AOL today will launch a beta version of a travel search site powered by Kayak (which I’ve tried and was quite
impressed with). Kayak was started by former executives of Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz. You might remember that
AOL acquired a minority ownership stake in Kayak last year. The AOL effort is part of a strategy to attract Web
visitors beyond its dwindling subscribers. Dubbed “Pinpoint Travel,” it will be available Web-wide, with no AOL
branding on the site and no special incentives for AOL members.

GBR Virtually

We’ve posted about an interesting little interactive over at Divester that might
be worth a few seconds of your time. It’s a simple, but kinda neat little interactive about diving the Great Barrier
Reef. You can click around and see info bits on the wildlife and the environment…dunno, just seemed kind of cool,
especially if you’ve got nothing better to do at the moment.

Paris Via Your Stomach

Here’s an interesting concept.
Edible-paris offers personalized food-based
intineraries should you be soon braving dollar sticker shock and heading to Gay Paree. All you need to do is send them
an e-mail desribing your food likes and dislikes, the kinds of restaurants where you feel at home, any obsessions,
etc.. They will then send you an itinerary along with a map locating the shops and restaurants, and you will be free to
discover all the incredible food Paris has to offer on your own.

Nice idea. I wonder if anyone is doing this for New York.

Compass Magazine

Compass Magazine goes to the Middle East and some interesting stories come out of it. They do a nice job of breaking stories down into politics, society, arts and culture and so on. This is an online magazine worth at least a peek.

Catch a Fire and a Deal

Travel +
Leisure’s hot deals section

has some pretty great finds.  My first time zipping through them I stumbled upon a couple for Jamaica in celebration of Bob Marley.  Quite a few
places are offering reggae inspired specials and since the Caribbean is on everybody’s mind it seems to be something to
spread good word about.  Least I think so.  Imagine Strawberry Hill, the Caves at Negril, and a trip to
Marley’s birthplace.  This particular hot deal is available until December 31, 2005.
