I forget how many of y’all are Christopher Guest/mockumentary fans, but he and his acting friends have got another film coming out that skewers yet another aspect of American entertainment culture. The film is called “For Your Consideration” and appears to take on the whole awards show thing. Unsurprisingly, it stars many of Guest’s favorites, including Catherine Harris, Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, and, Parker Posey. I offer you the trailer for our Friday Funny. Looks damn funny if you ask me. BTW: if you’re NOT a Christopher Guest fan and you would like to read synopses of his various films, go here to read a rather tongue in cheek series of them.
Friday Funny: Demonic Children
Forgive me for being late with this one, but I just had to be sure to get a Friday Funny up this week. The FF here came from Boing Boing and is a wonderful array of old illustrations of children from various magazine ads. they have a sort of Norman Rockwell meets David Lynch feeling to them, which I found delightfully odd. When I first stumbled upon the page, I thought, oh, these are interesting, but once I started looking deeper into the faces of some of these kids I got downright disturbed. This is kitch at its best.
Friday Funny: Treadmill Dancing
Once again, it’s time for the Friday funny, and once again the FF has absolutely NOTHING to do with travel. BUT that said, you have to really admire the creativity and practice that went into this bloody brilliant dance routine on a treadmill.
Simply called “Treadmill Dance” (on Youtube anyway), this is one of those things I wish I’d thought of and shot with my friends. From the uber-hipster look these guys are sporting, to the perfectly-choreographed routine, this is truly great.
Friday Funny: Jack Black Conducts
A fine video for the conservation-inclined reader today. This comes from an organization called Siftingbaseline.org, whose purpose seems to be saving the oceans…always a good message, I think. The concept here seems to be that one would not want to listen to a symphony made up of untalented clowns (in this case several well and lesser-known stars) and so therefore, um ,well, we should take care of the oceans which are being polluted and depleted of fish. I think I got that right, but I could be wrong. No matter. The real point of the whole exercise is that Jack Black looks wonderfully ridiculous as the poorly-wigged conductor…and that Henry “The Fonz” Winkler plays a mean harp.
Friday Funny: Scuba Diving Cat
I can already hear the collective groan from gadling readers who are going to be unhappy that I am choosing something this cheesy for my Friday Funny. Normally, I select items from places like McSweeneys or The Onion. But today, just because I’m feeling kind of loopy, lazy and, well, fond of animals, I am posting this video of a scuba diving cat. OK, I take full responsibility…but some on! He’s cute. And I hvaen’t done a diving post here in a while. So please, first forgive me….then watch.
