Statues are boring. Whether its some bronzed general ensconced on a horse, or an ironclad explorer gazing off to the horizon, many statues repeat the same themes endlessly and needlessly. But today’s statue-themed photo, courtesy of Photo of the Day regular jrodmanjr, is fantastically beautiful. It’s not just the statue subject matter mind you, but the way the photo plays with light and dark. The little wispy strands of clouds, the angular power wires criss-crossing the frame and the silhouetted stallion all combine to create a wonderful, luminous visual interplay.

Winter might not officially be with us until late December here in the northern hemisphere, but it certainly feels as if winter hibernation has already begun in many locales. This hazy shot of a Ryanair plane at the UK’s East Midlands airport, snapped by Flickr user u07ch, encapsulates the spirit of a blurry-eyed winter morning before the morning’s most essential things have transpired, things like caffeine refueling and plane de-icing.

Got a good image that sums up whatever seasonal moment you’re currently experiencing? Yeah? Great! Upload it to the Gadling Flickr pool. If you’re lucky, we’ll select your image to be a future Photo of the Day.

Seeing animals in the wild can be one of the highlights of any trip, especially when everyone comes out of it with all body parts intact. Flickr user kumukulanui captured this “Emu intensity” in Perth, Western Australia. I love the emu’s soulful eyes and curious/bordering-on-scary expression. I don’t know how the meeting will end, but I’m glad to have caught a moment. Emus are native to Australia and quite bold about approaching human, particularly when they have food, and have also inspired the Perth-brewed Emu Beer.

India is the seventh largest country by geographical area and with a population of 1.18 billion people, it’s the second most populous nation in the world. With such an immense concentration of people, unique languages, and religious practice, India has a well known reputation for being a little chaotic at times.

I love this photo for the symbolic dichotomy of chaos; masses of people on the streets and a frightening tangle of wire strung up in between crowded buildings. It’s almost as if the wires are delicately holding the buildings together as the crowd bustles, unaware. The photo was captured by Flickr user Trent Strohm in the crowded lanes of Old Delhi.

Have you gotten lost among the crowd in a foreign place? Send us your pictures! Submit to our Flickr group and it may be selected as our next Photo of the Day.

Whenever I pack for a trip, I am always incredibly worried that I will forget to pack underwear. Rather than face several weeks in one pair of underpants (or having to begrudgingly purchase several new pairs on the road), I always pack underwear first. Then it’s simply a matter of remembering to put on underwear every morning before setting out for the day.

Heading out sans underwear could lead to an unfortunate penis slip. You simply do not want that to happen when you’re in Thailand focusing on your takraw moves like the man in this photo by Flickr user Mark Fischer. Do yourself (and everyone who might see you) a favor and holster your gun with a solid pair of underpants.

Taken any great photos of underwear athletes on your travels? Why not add them to our Gadling group on Flickr? We might just pick one of yours as our Photo of the Day.
