Photo Of The Day: Rainbow Bikini Beach

C’mon, who doesn’t like rainbows, bikinis or the beach? But you have to be honest – how often do you find all three in a single travel photo? Yet that’s exactly what we came across in today’s exuberant photo by Flickr user Enjoy Patrick Responsibly. The shot, taken in Barbados, is such a fun and clever blending of the usual travel “cliches” that we couldn’t resist posting it while simultaneously shouting “yahoo!” at the top of our lungs.

Photo Of The Day: Vermilion Lakes Side Road

This Photo of the Day, titled “Vermilion Lakes Side Road,” comes from Gadling Flickr pool member `James Wheeler who captured this image using a Nikon 5000D and a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 lens with a Nikon Polarizing Filter.

Captioning the photo, James tells us:

“Just out side of Banff is a small road that runs parallel to the Trans Canada highway. This little side road offers some spectacular views of the Vermilion lakes.”

On this image, for example, James brought along a Sirui T-2005X Tripod with K-10x Tripod Head. Completing the image, James used photo-processing software including Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Nik Color Efex Pro and Topaz Adjust.

Photo Of The Day: Eleuthera

Eleuthera is a long slender snake of an island, about 110 miles long and an average of two miles wide. It has an embarrassment of beaches, which are notable not just for their number but also for their variety: a long pale strand here; a deep beach backed by reeds there; pretty pink sands elsewhere.

Flickr user trishhartmann captured this particularly dramatic Eleuthera beach, Tippy’s Beach near Governor’s Harbour, in June of this year. The clouds, the milky green waters, and the perfect sand all contribute to making this image especially compelling.

Whether you are traveling in an exotic city, or just commuting to work, public transportation is always a rich source of photography subjects. Flickr user (and PotD favorite) davitydave is a frequent photographer on San Francisco‘s Muni, adding his favorite shots to his Flickr page with the title “Meanwhile on Muni.” This shot particularly captures the range of human expression, from suspicion to sleep.

As the leaves turn to orange, then red, then brown, before disappearing entirely, memories of lazy summer days tend to slip further and further away. Today’s Photo of the Day, taken by Flickr user Trish Hartmann in Plön, Germany, captures the essence of late summer perfectly. The foliage is bright green, and the water reflects the sunlight. You’ll want to keep this shot on file for the depths of winter.
