Photo Of The Day: Fantastic Voyage

Today’s Photo of the Day is a lovely Renaissance fresco from Rome‘s Villa Farnesina, taken by Flickr user AlexSven. It’s not the most famous artwork from the museum, that of Raphael’s “Triumph of Galatea,” but it depicts another voyage of the gods. It’s what we all hope our travel will be: swift, elegant and a bit magical. The mode of travel, chariot pulled by a pair of oxen, is as old-fashioned as it gets, and a group of hidden angels assure safe passage for the rider. May your next trip be as smooth.

Upload your magical voyages to Gadling’s Flickr pool for another Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: A Hammock View In Florida

Whenever I start to feel the weight of the world on my shoulders, I conjure up a mental image that is very similar to today’s Photo of the Day, taken from a hammock at the Gulf View Waterfront Resort in Marathon, Florida. “This was a great place to take a nap,” says Flickr user Chuck Oliver. Oh, the joys of vacation.

What personal travel photos stroke your wanderlust? Upload your shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: White Tiger

It’s rare to get up close and personal with an elusive animal like the white tiger, so I was intrigued when I saw today’s photo choice by Flickr user toffiloff. Taken at Bali’s Safari and Marine Park, the shot captures this magnificent cat as it appears to stare at its own reflection in a mirror. I love the fearsome growl, the piercing blue eyes and the interesting perspective from behind. Hopefully our photographer was not inside the animal enclosure to take this neat shot!

Have any great wildlife shots from your travels? Why not add them to our Gadling group on Flickr? We might just pick one of yours as our Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Clear Days

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member James Wheeler who captured this image titled “Clear Days” with a Nikon D-5000.

James captions the image:

“We don’t get nearly enough clear days in Vancouver, but when we do the views everywhere are spectacular. This photo was taken from the beach just north of the University of British Columbia campus.”

Upload your best shots to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Several times a week we choose our favorite images from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Tips for getting featured: in your Flickr account, check “Privacy and Permissions,” and check “yes” on “Allow others to share your stuff.” Adding information about your image does not hurt your chances either.

Photo Of The Day: Dunedin Train Station

Dunedin, with a population of over 115,000, is New Zealand’s southernmost big city. (No disrespect to smaller Invercargill and other southerly towns.) For visitors to New Zealand, Dunedin feels like the real south of the country.

Flickr user carlcroom‘s photo of Dunedin’s train station offers a little bit of a sense of that South Island end-of-the-road magic. Mostly, though, he simply captures the grandeur of an impressive train station. Dunedin’s, finished in 1906, was built in a Renaissance Revival style.
