Photo Of The Day: Madrid’s Palacio Real

Today’s photo, by Flickr user APANCHA, takes place at the changing of the guard at Madrid’s Royal Palace (Palacio Real). The tight marching pattern of the soldiers, evenly spaced as they pass in front of the palace’s stately architecture makes for quite a show for photo-snapping tourists. There’s an intriguing geometry to the shot – the neat, upright marching of the soldiers almost seems to mimic the palace’s stately vertical columns behind them.

Taken any great photos during your own travels? Why not add them to our Gadling group on Flickr? We might just pick one of yours as our Photo of the Day.

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member APANCHA who captured this image of summer sailing in Puget Sound using a Nikon D90.

Puget Sound is a system of interconnected marine waterways and home to whales, eagles, herons, seals and salmon in the state of Washington. The South Puget Sound Region offers 30 recreational sites that include trailheads and picnic areas for day use and campgrounds for overnight use.

Recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, 4×4 rock climbs, quad and bike trails, horseback trails, natural areas, paragliding, plus diving, boating and other marine activities.

Upload your best shots to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Several times a week we choose our favorite images from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Tips for getting featured: in your Flickr account, check “Privacy and Permissions,” and check “yes” on “Allow others to share your stuff.” Adding information about your image does not hurt your chances either.

Photo Of The Day: Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains of New South Wales are characterized by deep gorges and tree cover that appears from a distance to be bathed in a blue haze. The Three Sisters, a formation of three rock towers, are one of the region’s highlights. Today’s Photo of the Day depicts Meehni, the tallest of the Three Sisters.

Today’s Photo of the Day was taken by Flickr user verargulla, whose work has been previously featured on this very page. Want to see your images chosen not just once but multiple times as Photo of the Day at Gadling? Then upload your photos to Flickr’s Gadling Group Pool – that’s the only way to make it happen. And don’t be shy. Our tastes are quite broad.

Video Of The Day: Ramadan Iftar Feast, Olympics Edition

Tomorrow, July 20, thousands of Muslims will wake up around the world and begin a month-long fast for the occasion of Ramadan. From sunrise to sunset, they will abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking, while breaking the fast with lively Ramadan iftar feasts at night. This year is special as it will coincide with the London Olympics, and UK mosques will be welcoming people from all over the world from every faith (or lack there of) to join in the celebratory feasts. If you are visiting London, you can learn more about the Ramadan holy month or join an iftar. You can visit www.iftar2012.com for more information.

Photo Of The Day: Lyme Regis Rainbow

It’s not often that you see both points of a rainbow, much less capture it on film. Flickr user Matt Coats did both in today’s Photo of the Day, taken in Lyme Regis, a coastal town on England‘s Heritage Coast. Lyme Regis is known for its preponderance of pre-historic fossils, but with phenomena like this rainbow, one has to wonder whether pots of gold also line the coast.

Do you have your own jaw-dropping photographs of natural phenomena? Upload your travel shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.
