Surfer Fends Off Shark, Gets Back in Water

Great story that epitomizes the
spirit of the Aussies.

A surfer gets attacked by a 7-foot shark (granted not that big), fends it off with his board, and then gets right back
in the water to start surfing again. Love it.

Fortune Cookie Predicts Surf Vacation

As luck would have it, a week before Brent
Thrash
was to depart on his wicked surf hideaway in
Raglan, New Zealand he opened a fortune cookie that told him what he already
knew.  “An enjoyable vacation is awaiting you.”  I suppose that’s pretty cool.  What’s better than his
cookie fortune is his awesome adventure down under.  After meeting up with tour guide Blair Dods and a second surf
enthusiast, Morgan Johns from Canada, they head to the west coast to surf Raglan.

What they encounter - not so happening waves at first, but with the turn of the tide and a wait into the
evening produced a tremendously different scenario. Along with exquisite New Zealand countryside and waves,
waves, waves, it sounds like his fortune this cookie was on point.

Sailboat Capsizes

Check out these images of a sailboat capsizing near the Golden Gate
Bridge in San Fransisco. Turns out some surfers came to the rescue and saved the two dudes sailing it. The footage
speaks for itself. Pretty amazing.

Surfing NYC

You surf, you get a summons. Or so it goes in Far Rockaway…or so it went.
Now it seems surfers who brave the cold and
syringes have their own little slice of beach to all their own, a two-jetty stretch of Rockaway Beach near Beach 90th
Street in Queens. I’ve got a couple of buddies who surf over in Rockaway, and while it’s not Oahu, it’s still a place
to surf. And so it is a big deal for some folks that they’ve now created an official spot for surfers. City
officials say it is New York’s first beach set aside for surfing only, year-round.

Everyone say woo hoo!

Inner Visions Trailer

For surfing fans, you can now see a killer trailer of the film
“Inner Visions from the Search”
with some sweet footage by world-renowned cinematographer Jon Frank. The film (is it just me, or are surf films very
popular these days?) is all about the hunt for perfect, uncrowded waves in the farthest reaches of the globe. It’s a
short, but excellent little sample from a film I’m going to add to my Netflix queue today.
