Photo of the Day (8/12/06)

Somehow seeing this shot makes me a little sad. Don’t get me wrong, the beauty found in the design of the Barajas airport in Madrid is without a question, but I can’t help thinking back to my first and only trip to Madrid. Did I fly into a different airport or was I in such a hurry to escape the hordes of tourists looking to tackle the city that I missed such an elegant piece of interior scenery? I feel lost now.

Anyhow, I’m thankful wongoz left this fantastic work of art in our Flickr pool. Nice stuff!

Do Espana MTV Real World Style with STA Travel

Fans of the hit MTV reality series The Real World who enjoyed watching the cast of Key West on their Spanish getaway to Spain can live it up just the same. STA Travel is sharing the cast mates fan-tab and totally top-secret 10-day itinerary for the world to see and experience for their own. I’m sure this doesn’t really sound all that appealing to the older, more sophisticated non-MTV watchers out there, but it’s still a trip to Spain and the itinerary doesn’t look all that bad. Stops include Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona with packages starting at $605. Check out STA Travel for more details.

Madrid to Kiev

I love it when people put up sites to chronicle their epic trips. These sites are often both useful travel guides and vicarious glimpses into another person’s daily life. Some of them are done better than others, and many are crap, especially when people don’t post frequently or neglect to post photos, which are half the fun. Well, a traveler named Lee is following in the footsteps of Director Werner Herzog…well, sort of. He’s kind of following the off-hand advice of Herzog who said that to become a filmmaker, you should forget going to school, but take a long walk, say, from Madrid to Kiev. Hence the name of his site, Madridtokiev.com. And so apparently, this trip, which we get to see through dispatches and some video, is Lee’s excuse for film school. Good luck to him.
