Flight 001 Looking for Ground Crew

We are by no means a job board here at Gadling, but occasionally we’ll see something that could be of interest to our travel feigning readers and from there we blog about it. Depending on where you land a career in the travel industry it is either a blessing or a hellish nightmare. I like to imagine working where the perks are many and woes are few. I’d never want to be a TSA screener and while I never made a stellar salesperson, I wouldn’t mind applying for a gig at Flight 001. The online travel shopping portal is looking for ground crew at their east coast, west coast, and Midwest locations. That gives almost anyone with a knack for ringing in the sales an opportunity to get in on what seems like a pretty happening place to work. Even if only for the holiday season so you can stash some extra cash and break for Brazil after you’ve saved enough, but don’t go in there talking like that. Chances are you won’t get the job. Go figure.

Flight 001 is currently seeking Sales Crew and Store Leaders at various NY and CA locations. Their headquarters is in need of a Buying Office Assistant and Staff Accountant.

Wallpaper* City Guides

Just when you start to sleep on Wallpaper* they go and make their debut in the publishing world with these nice little City Guides. Their reason being, after 10 years in the game uncovering the best new design and urban travel spots globally, packaging that decade of experience into well-thought out yet simple guide books was only obviously. They make it clear that the traveler’s time is as important as their own and they don’t waste it chucking in massive quantities. It’s about quality and they very best. The first 20 were published this past September and another 20 will be published every six months after that. Current titles include Mexico City, Los Angeles, NYC, Madrid, Bangkok and Stockholm to name only a few.

The books can be purchased at Phaidon. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Stay tuned for the rest in 2007!

Manhattan (Beach) on the Hudson

I give a big thumbs up to efforts that various groups and government organizations have made to clean up the Hudson River. I use it every week. I paddle on the Hudson, I’ve gone swimming in it and some of my runs each week take me along it’s sparking edge. How cool, then, to read about the effort to give us outdoors deprived Manhattanites a place to sun ourselves.

Yes, we might be getting a bona-fide beach. Say it with me: a beach in Manhattan. And what’s even more amazing is that the beach, should it be built, might be located just a few blocks from my apartment. This is crazy news. But of course, like a Nascar race beauty pageant, there are always a few big buts. In this case, one of the buts is that the beach won’t even be started until 2012 when the city sanitation department depot relocates at that time.

The second but is that this is where the city sanitation department is located. So that can bode well for the cleanliness of things, even if they do say it will be cleaned up. But no matter how you look at it, a beach along the river would be tres cool. It may be aways off, but I am already shopping for beach towels.
