Photo Of The Day: The Walt Disney Concert Hall In Los Angeles

One of Downtown Los Angeles‘ great treasures is the Walt Disney Concert Hall, a Frank Gehry-designed structure home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Major Chorale. It is captured brilliantly in today’s Photo of the Day, taken by Flickr user Nan Palmero using a simple Canon Powershot S95. The sky’s brilliant blue casts a cool hue upon the structure’s stainless steel exterior, illuminating what is truly a building of the future.

Photo Of The Day: Amapala, Isla del Tigre

This Photo of the Day is titled “Amapala, Isla del Tigre” and comes from Gadling Flickr pool member Adalberto.H.Vega.

The scene is of the 316-square kilometer volcanic island of Isla del Tigre, not far from the Honduran mainland in the Gulf of Fonseca. Amapala is its only town, known for great seafood and getting lost in time.

Gadling Flickr pool member Adalberto.H.Vega makes Honduras his home and has an extensive library of images captured using an Olympus D-500 that clearly validate that ‘lost in time’ reputation. Vega is Director of Marketing and Product Development at MC Tours, a major Central America tour operator that operates in Honduras.

Photo Of The Day: Hampi

Hampi is a village in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important religious place. It is photographed here at sunset by Flickr user arunchs, who has captured a glorious fragment of time at the most poetic time of day.

We like sunsets. They’re beautiful and they allow us to imagine that we’re on the road. So upload your best sunset images to the Gadling Group Pool. We pick our favorites from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Cancun Landscape

There are certain images we see in our social network feeds over and over, especially at certain times of year: the Thanksgiving turkey, the decorated Christmas tree, and the vacation favorite: the bare feet on a beach chair (recently called “the loneliest pic in the world” on TV’s “Up All Night”), alcoholic beverage in hand. Today’s Photo of the Day is thankfully foot-free, though the image is still plenty jealousy-inducing. Flickr user Nan Palmero framed the shot beautifully under a thatched umbrella, giving the landscape sky an almost surreal quality, and the distance of the water and few people make Cancun seem practically serene. I’d definitely “like” this picture.

We’d love to see your travel images in the Gadling Flickr pool to choose for a future Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: A Caprese In Capri

“Absolutely the BEST!!!” writes Flickr user Susan Cohen about today’s Photo of the Day, taken at the Villa Verde on the island of Capri in Italy. Judging from the photograph, we’d probably agree. The insalata caprese is one of Italy’s best-known dishes, and it is at its finest in Capri, a small island in the Gulf of Naples, just off the Amalfi Coast. A true insalata caprese uses fresh Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, a version of the creamy cheese that carries Denominazione di Origine Controllata status and is only produced in seven regions of central and southern Italy. When combined with bright red cherry tomatoes, fresh green arugula and a drizzle of high-quality Italian olive oil, the result is, quite simply, the best.
