Sometimes, it’s the unexpected details that can lighten up a long day of travel. Take, for instance, this bright green door in Conil de la Frontera, a seaside town in Andalucia, Spain. Wearing a whimsical lopsided smile thanks to some conveniently placed locks and handles, this door probably causes passersby to stop, grin and continue along their ways with lighter springs in their steps. I imagine that Flickr user AlexSven had a similarly amused reaction.

Photo Of The Day: Summer Sailing In Puget Sound

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member APANCHA who captured this image of summer sailing in Puget Sound using a Nikon D90.

Puget Sound is a system of interconnected marine waterways and home to whales, eagles, herons, seals and salmon in the state of Washington. The South Puget Sound Region offers 30 recreational sites that include trailheads and picnic areas for day use and campgrounds for overnight use.

Recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, 4×4 rock climbs, quad and bike trails, horseback trails, natural areas, paragliding, plus diving, boating and other marine activities.

The Blue Mountains of New South Wales are characterized by deep gorges and tree cover that appears from a distance to be bathed in a blue haze. The Three Sisters, a formation of three rock towers, are one of the region’s highlights. Today’s Photo of the Day depicts Meehni, the tallest of the Three Sisters.

Photo Of The Day: Lyme Regis Rainbow

It’s not often that you see both points of a rainbow, much less capture it on film. Flickr user Matt Coats did both in today’s Photo of the Day, taken in Lyme Regis, a coastal town on England‘s Heritage Coast. Lyme Regis is known for its preponderance of pre-historic fossils, but with phenomena like this rainbow, one has to wonder whether pots of gold also line the coast.

Photo Of The Day: Bending Creek

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member `James Wheeler who captured this image titled “Bending Creek” at Squamish-Lillooet, British Columbia, CA, using a Nikon D5000.

James was on a three-week road trip through British Columbia out of Vancouver, exploring Penticton, Champion Lakes, Moyie Lake, Waterton lakes, Kootenay National Park, Banff, Jasper, Yoho National Park, Glacier National Park and Sun peaks.

Camping most of the way, James planned on staying at a hotel every five days or so to gain Internet access so he could upload photos.
