Photo Of The Day: Easter Island P.D.

Spring is in full swing and Easter and Passover are coming this weekend. Looking for something seasonally appropriate, I searched the Gadling Flickr pool but instead of Easter the holiday, I found images of Easter the Island. This shot by davitydave especially caught my eye, showing the uniformed (and probably Chilean) Easter Island police looking rather stern and serious with their incredible and unusual view. I wonder what their “beat” is like? Do they see much action other than rowdy tourists and the occasional protest? Hey officers, I see some shady looking characters loitering down at the water.

Add your travel photos to the Gadling Flickr pool to be featured on another Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Arches Of The Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco
‘s Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed landmarks in the world, but it might take a few minutes before you recognize her in today’s Photo of the Day from Flickr user Jason Rodman. Is that a chic lounge? A minimalist sauna? A macro shot of Lego blocks? The image’s contrast and perspective play tricks on your eyes until you finally recognize the iconic red arches.

Rodman says that the image was taken from the sunroof of his car. “I was behind the wheel but taking advantage of a traffic jam up ahead. Once I saw that traffic was stopped, out came the camera.”

Video Of The Day: Bear Dances In The Woods

Spring is here, which means we’ll all be heading back onto hiking trails and into the woods for camping trips. Of course, we’re not the only species taking advantage of everything nature has to offer. We share trails, forests and just about everything else with all manner of animals big and small. Thanks to a well-placed camera, we can now see what happens in the woods when we’re not there. As expected, it’s all dance parties, popping and locking. After sleeping for months, you’d be ready to bust a move, too!

Photo Of The Day: Old Mill

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member James Wheeler who captured the image using a Nikon D5000 and is titled “Oil Mill.”

James describes the image as “thee remains of an old mill that was in operation in the early 1900s. This is just a short walk from West Vancouver along a well-marked hiking trail.”

Photo Of The Day: Spring Blossoms

Spring blossoms are here.

More to the point, it is really starting to feel like spring across the Northern Hemisphere. (And in fact, unseasonably warm weather in many different spots around the world has had things feeling like summer several months ahead of schedule.) This image of tender spring blossoms, taken by Flickr user (flicts) in Barcarena, Portugal, really captures the tentative, giddy nature of early springtime. See more work by the photographer here.
