Despite the oddly warm weather we’re experiencing in the Northeast right now, it is technically the start of ski season is many part of the country. However, it can be difficult to get to a proper ski destination whether due to finances, lack of time or friends who flake on planned trips. Well, this skier didn’t go anywhere but his own neighborhood to hit the slopes. He crosses streets, jumps cars and catches a local bus all while careening downhill on his skis. Granted, he’s in British Columbia, so he’s probably pretty close to some decent ski runs, but this is still a residential “trail.” We don’t recommend that you try this in your neighborhood.

An airplane window frames the outside world. There are few images more iconic, more suggestive of modern travel than a photograph of the sky taken from the interior of a plane, framed by an oval airplane window. This image, taken by Flickr user femme_fm, captures the super blue skies above the Austrian province of Styria. I love how the texture of the window itself is visible.

Photo of the day – Toronto turkey
It’s Thanksgiving today in America, and thus time for the obligatory turkey-related photo. Our friends over at Matador called our attention to this turkey-shaped building in Canada, of all places. The University of Toronto‘s John P. Robarts research library was designed to look like a peacock, but bears more of a resemblance to tonight’s main course. The concrete and vaguely Soviet structure was taken by Flickr user Jiang Long and is also known as “Fort Book.”

Video of the Day: Driving a NYC Subway
It’s always been a dream of mine to shadow a NYC subway conductor for a day. Sure, you could ride the subway all day, but imagine spending a shift with a subway conductor train operator and seeing the tunnels from that perspective. Well, this video might just be the closest we can get to that experience. Now, if only the subway actually moved that quickly…and never got stuck for 20 minutes stretches when I’m running late for a meeting.

Through November 20th, the Seoul Lantern Festival will continue to light up spirits in the South Korean capital. Of the many images of the festival posted by Flickr user LadyExpat (Back in Daejeon) at the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr, it was this one that really stood out: a simple game of swan lanterns, luminous against an inky pool.
