Photo of the day – Red lantern in China

Sometimes it’s the simplest images that reach out and grab the viewer. Take today’s Photo of the Day, snapped by Flickr user Bernard-SD, of a red lantern snapped in Yunnan Province, China. The lantern’s glow is almost magical. Though Bernard-SD took this photograph in July, the image’s deep warmth strikes me as particularly appropriate for early September, as summer’s slow turn into fall announces itself more fully.

Photo of the day – Bingo in Gozo

I’m going to break with tradition with choosing a Photo of the Day from our Flickr pool and post a photo from on location. I’m currently traveling on the Mediterranean island of Gozo, Malta, staying outside the small town of Xagra (oh, the things we do to bring new destination content to our readers!). Each night, I walk to the town square with my husband and baby and watch as the whole town assembles for eating, gossiping, and apparently, bingo. At first we thought the church was setting up for an important religious ceremony, as hundreds turn out each night and wait expectantly for the church bells to sound at 9pm, but it’s just good old-fashioned bingo. Old ladies, teenagers, and couples arrive with their markers, hoping for their number to be called.

What old-fashioned social events have you seen on your travels? Add your photos to the Gadling Flickr pool and we may choose it for a future Photo of the Day.

Video of the Day – Paragliding over Spain

Want to film a catchy music video without a massive budget? Consider grabbing some of your most adventurous friends, getting them to do some outrageous outdoor activity, and then hire a talented editor to overlay some snazzy effects & motion graphics.

Madrid-based editor Jorgiatos recently posted this music video that was shot in and around Castejón De Sos, a town near the Spain-France border that’s well known amongst paragliders. It was shot with several GoPro Hero HD‘s, though the additional effects and titles make it look as if it was filmed with much more substantial equipment.

Do you know of an adventurous music video that we need to see? Send it our way! Leave a comment below and it could be our next Video of the Day.

Video of the Day: CarSik Bib vomit demonstration

Whether you’re flying or driving, when you have to worry about a child, things are much more complicated. As adults, we can respond to our own bodies’ needs and act accordingly. Kids, sadly, need our help going to the bathroom, feeding themselves, and, all too often, being sick. Motion sickness is horrible for kids. They don’t know why they feel sick, they get scared and throwing up is a mess. Thankfully, one clever entrepreneur decided to address that issue by creating the CarSik Bib, a reverse feedbag for your child. Check out the video above for a demo. Things get pretty awesome around the 30-second mark. Trust me.

For adults and older kids, they also make the Hurl-e. The product isn’t that exciting, but it’s nice to see our vomit dummy getting such steady work.
