Photo of the Day: Tofino sunset

Flickr user James Wheeler brings us this photo of a Tofino sunset. On the West Coast of Vancouver Island in the province of British Columbia, Tofino says good night to the Clayoquot Sound region, a world UNESCO biosphere reserve. The area boasts one of British Columbia’s most prized nature reserves, Pacific Rim National Park and offers the best way to experience BC’s pristine wilderness first hand.

Photo of the day – Lonesome cow in Ireland

Oh to be a lonesome cow in Ireland. Upon second though, not really. The solitary bovine life probably isn’t much fun. Let’s rephrase: Oh to be a lonesome Irish cow with views like these, with a blue sea stretching out to the horizon and a brisk wind aloft.

Flickr user t3mujin snapped this photograph in County Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. Its composition and bold colors are compelling.

Bac Ha Market in Vietnam, known for colorful hill tribes, livestock of all kinds (some good advice on transporting your new chicken can be found here), and moonshine. Just don’t have too much of the local swill – you want to stay sharp when bartering for your buffalo like the gentleman above.

Video of the Day: Rihanna prefers a California King Bed

When you stay at a hotel, one of the most important things is the quality of the bed. No one wants to sleep in a twin bed. Who needs two queens if you’re just there with your wife? And, if you’re tall, you’ll want the extra length provided by a California king bed. Apparently, Rihanna feels very strongly about needing 86″ of length in her mattress, because she wrote a whole song about it.

Granted, we have no idea what the hell is happening in this video and we’re certain that her hair color does not occur in nature, but it sure is a lengthy bed. And, at the end of the day – literally – isn’t that all that matters?

Every now and then an image shows up in the Flickr Gadling group pool that knocks my socks off. This is one such photo, snapped by Flickr user baby_mongster. It depicts a short woman in a light raincoat against the straight-forward 1970s modernism of the Lyon metro system. This composition, reduced to black-and-white simplicity, is starkly beautiful.

A modern setting that also looks old-fashioned is doubly appealing. It says: Here is the future, and it looks somewhat old.
