I don’t know about you guys, but this Friday feels like a much needed one. It’s been quite a week, especially with all of the revolutionary news from the Middle East and the world in general! Here’s a quick look at what’s going on in the travel universe…

  • Ever run out of money when you’re traveling? Don’t rely on Mom and Pop to bail you out. Take some advice from Bootsnall on what to do when you’re broke overseas.
  • I really enjoyed this article from Brave New Traveler on 6 Ways To Not Be a Holier-than-thou Traveler. Reminds me of the time I was drinking une noissette in a café near the Jardin du Luxembourg, and…. oh, right.
  • Forget the “Kiss the Cook” barbecue apron. This year, give Dad something he really wants on Father’s Day: adventure.
  • In a great article for the Oxford American, former travel editor and current World Hum contributor Tom Swick details the pleasure, but mostly the pain, of becoming an accidental freelancer.
  • Belgian soccer player collapses from a heart attack while playing a game. His internal defibrillator zaps him back to life. Cool video, and appropriate headline, here.

Here’s a look at what else is going on in the travel world today…

  • The Boston Globe’s photo blog “The Big Picture” posts some outstanding photos from the aftermath of Iran’s controversial election. Andrew Sullivan has dozens more first-hand accounts.
  • Bootsnall’s Eileen Smith suggests 15 Incredible Desserts You Should Try on the Road. I’ll admit it, I almost licked the screen while looking at that picture of baklava. (Okay, I did.)
  • Attention Mountain Dew commercial casting directors: Here‘s some video of Tyler Bradt, a 22-year-old extreme kayaker, setting a world record by plunging off a 186-foot waterfall.
  • How can you not love Japan?
  • Finally, Chris Blattman thinks that Nicholas Kristof’s recent tips for surviving bandits in poor countries will be counter-productive to his goal of encouraging more people to visit third world countries.
