Ideal Wedding Gift: A Honeymoon!

I’m in a long-term relationship and we’re not planning on tying the knot in the near future, but by the time we do, I suspect we will have all the things that typically go on a wedding registry: the blenders, linens, silverware, etc. So this idea of registering for a honeymoon instead of houseware sounds awesome! In fact, even if I didn’t own a single plate, I’d probably still want to register for a vacation rather than a food processor.

There are a number of travel companies that offer honeymoon registries, and basically, guests contribute an amount towards the whole trip, or they can purchase individual tourist items such as restaurant gift certificates, tours, tickets to shows and so on.

Maybe I should hurry up this whole marriage thing ….

Global Gift Guide from T+L

Christmas may very well be a thing of 2006 past, but the spirit of giving is never ending! Perhaps you received something not so shimmery this holiday season. Maybe mom had it all wrong when you said you wanted a sari and picked up a kimono instead. Or let’s say you just happen to have so much money to burn your head is spinning and you are still ready to purchase for your entire circle of friends. Good for you! Whether you are making a return, exchange or a new transaction keep your eyes extra peeled for deals.

I stumbled on this Travel+Leisure global gift guide a few days before Christmas and meant to post sooner, but it makes no difference. There are some awesome finds here and reasonably priced. Okay, some are a little pricey, but it is a guide that truly caters to everyone I think. Gift ideas range from Colorado western wear to beach inspired gear to the far east like these jewels of India. I’ve got a few pals of my own with birthdays until the end of the year so I’ll be one of many still searching for the perfect trinket to package and ship.

Photo of the Day (12/20/06)

Still searching for the perfect stocking stuffer for your loved one? Well, if you’re in Paris for the holidays you might want to check in with this dude selling many mini Eiffel Tower. He seems to have several and no real-takers. Maybe he’s just getting started with his business day. Taken by localsurfer in Paris with some type of Lomo cam (Holga?), I’d say he did a good job capturing the guy’s boredom or lack of interest while on the job.

Last Minute Gift Ideas at Flight 001

Being the bearer of bad news has never been my sort of thing (especially around holidays), so I’ll spare my comments on how expedited shipping is going to tear into your pocketbook and soul if you haven’t already purchased holiday gifts for your loved ones. Flight 001, a favorite travel gear site of mine, has some last minute recommendations for those who feel left in the dark about what to nab next. You can order as late as December 21 and still get nifty luggage tags, retro jet set bags and other travel treasures into their hands for whenever. The prices have never been considered outrageous at Flight 001 and you should be able to score a pretty sweet deal if you act now. Otherwise, count on spending just as much on your shipping as you did on the purchase.

It happened to me today. I wanted to cry. Hurry up holidays and end!

Get Them an ISLANDS Calendar!

We haven’t posted many gift giving ideas here for the season and I’ll let you know I have some pretty rock-your-socks off recommendations, but for now I offer you this nifty stocking stuffer idea. Let me remind you that it is simple, useful and it is the perfect purchase for those on a tight-holiday budget. Not everyone can afford the first-class ticket to Bora-Bora for their loved ones, but planning for an island vacation doesn’t have to stop here. Grab one of ISLANDS 2007 calendars and mark the days away until it’s time to sail away. The calendar runs for $11.97 from ISLANDS magazine and can be purchased here. To make it that much better they even have an extra island photo for January 2008 so your planning can take you further if necessary.
