Daily deal – Apple 8GB iPod Touch for $199 (refurbished)

My daily deal for today is for a great way to save almost $100 on the popular Apple iPod Touch. This version has 8GB of storage, which is enough for up to 1750 songs, but you can also load photos and movies on the device.

In addition to being a “normal” iPod, the iPod touch also has a web browser and email program, which makes it perfect for using on your next flight, if it happens to come with wireless Internet access!

With the new Apple “App store”, you will even be able to download applications to the device, including several very handy travel programs. To get these new features, you will have to spend an additional $9.95 for the iPod touch software upgrade.

The iPod has been refurbished by Apple, which means it was once returned to them, and was brought back to its “as new” condition, and my experience with Apple is that a refurbished iPod is indeed impossible to tell from a new version.

The refurbished Apple 8GB iPod touch comes with the same one year warranty as their new players, and in the box you will find the player, a pair of headphones, a USB cable, a users guide and a stand (which is just a small piece of plastic).

If 8GB is not enough for you, you’ll also be able to find the 16GB and 32GB versions in the store for a substantial discount.

Gadling readers with an iPhone or iPod Touch?

Our friends over at Engadget just let the world know that the mobile version of their site is now “iPhone friendler”.

In addition to the existing m.enagdget.com link, iPhone and iPod Touch users can view the site in an optimized version for their device by pointing Safari to i.engadget.com. The good news is, that this works for any site in our family, including Gadling!

If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch, and you’d like to keep up to date with the news posted on your favorite travel site when you are on the road (or in the bathroom), you can browse to i.gadling.go-vip.net.

While this may seem a little unfair to all the other mobile users out there, Engadget posted the statistics of visitors to the current mobile site, and it turns out that a whopping 95.9% of all mobile browsers came to the site using an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Take your gadgets on your next diving trip

Our friends over at Engadget have posted about a new product that could revolutionize the way we use, and travel with our gadgets. The product is called “Golden Shellback” and is a new way of coating any kind of device, and making it waterproof.

The product is a development of the Northeast Maritime Institute in Fairhaven, MA.

Applying Golden Shellback involves placing the item in a vacuum and coating it with what they call a “vacuum deposited film”.

In videos released by the institute, you can clearly see them pour water on a laptop, a Blackberry and even an iPod touch.

The coating even adds the ability to repel oils, hazardous materials, dirt, dust and sand from your prized possession.

Imagine a world where you can bring your MP3 player along on your next trip, and not worry about using it in the rain, or on the beach. Or, next time someone spills a can of soda on your laptop duing some heavy turbulance, simply rinse it off and get back to work.
