“Clang, clang, clang went the trolley,” sang Judy Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis, giving the most charming mode of transportation its own theme song. Except this trolley isn’t in St. Louis or even San Francisco, it’s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, part of the oldest operating tram system in South America. Whether you call it a tram, a trolley, a streetcar, or a cable car, this Flickr photo by AlexSven captures the old-timey fun (also, suspenders are the most charming way to hold up pants). Nowadays, trolleys are making a comeback, with new or extended routes planned for many cities in the United States including St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, and Little Rock. Kennebunkport, Maine is even home to a trolley museum.

Whatever happened to boy bands? I guess popular music is cyclical and we’re just not in a boy band era right now. I mean, the Jackson 5 were amazing. New Edition was pretty awesome, too. NKOTB (New Kids on the Block, for those not in the know) were pretty horrible but injected life into the slumping light-wash denim industry. The 90s gave us LFO, the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and a bottomless hole of migraines. Now, the music landscape is once again devoid of boy bands and, as such, choreographed dancing. That, dear readers, is a shame.

People like seeing young men in matching outfits gyrate in unison. It’s a fact. Look it up. That’s why I love this photo by Flickr user jrodmanjr. These guards marching in the Forbidden City have clearly been rehearsing. Those long hours sweating it out in leg warmers perfecting their routine certainly paid off.

Have any pictures of boy bands on the road? Or just some amazing travel photos? Upload them to the Gadling Flickr group and we might just use one for our next Photo of the Day.

Old Gadling hand Anna Brones snapped this image in New Orleans, catching a fragment of the 2009 campaign to draft Brad Pitt to run for Mayor of New Orleans. Pitt failed to take the bait, unlike another celebrity, Wyclef Jean, who is currently running for the job of President of Haiti. Jean recently announced his intention to run for Haiti’s top office. He has been hit by scathing yet fair criticism of his qualifications.

Clearly, many celebrities who’ve gotten their public footing in entertainment ponder a jump into politics, though one wonders just how rewarding such a career move actually turns out to be for those who make the jump successfully. Would Arnold Schwarzenegger have run for Governor of California if he knew that he would be saddled with a 22 percent approval rating several years in? Isn’t making music and movies easier than battling interest groups, wacko constituents, budget deficits, and the nasty capriciousness of the 24-hour news cycle?

Got an image of Brad Pitt or his likeness somewhere? Perhaps an image of another celebrity would-be politician? Don’t be shy. Introduce it to Gadling’s Flickr pool and we might just feature it as a future Photo of the Day.

As a kid, there may be nothing more terrifying than feeling like you’ve gotten separated from your parents. I remember being in a supermarket, looking up and discovering that my mother was nowhere in sight. I started to freak out. Maybe some kids can handle that, but I was one of those children who would have been bullied if I was in Lord of the Flies.

That’s why it’s so nice to see this girl’s hand securely held by (presumably) her mother in this fantastic photo by Flickr user narinnr. This is a way better situation than having a kid on one of those child leashes. Those things are demoralizing.

Seen lost children? Bring them to the attention of the proper authorities! Then upload your travel pictures to the Gadling Flickr group and we might just use one for our next Photo of the Day.

I love the colors, the motion, and the title of this photo (Hanoi Breakfast) by andreakw. Is it the social whir behind the woman in the foreground? Is it her intensity? Is it simply dinnertime in my time zone?

This image is an easy reminder that breakfast is a culturally bound concept. That the pho’ in question also looks terribly delicious, spicy and dense with noodles, is also very appealing.

Got a great image of a beautiful meal in an exciting location? Add it to Gadling’s Flickr photo pool and we might just pluck it out of obscurity to be featured as our Photo of the Day.
