Photo Of The Day: Sunset After Nemo

Last week, Winter Storm Nemo battered the Eastern seaboard of the United States with torrential snow and sleet, not to mention a bitter cold freeze that lasts to this day.

In the calm after the storm, Flickr user Peter Rood captured this image of a stunning sunset over Boston, one of the cities hit worst by the storm. Where Mother Nature wreaks havoc, she can also bring extraordinary beauty.

Photo Of The Day: Telephone, St Paul’s

This Photo of the Day, titled “Telephone, St Paul’s,” comes from Gadling Flickr pool member American Jon who captured the image with his new Olympus E-M5.

This one caught my attention because, while it has been years since I was in London, I remember those buses, phone boxes and taxis, all captured in this shot. American Jon says of the image:

“My first shooting session with my new OMD, the 7th shot taken and I end up on Explore for the first time in 4 1/2 years with my highest ever ranking.”

Good for you Jon!

Photo Of The Day: Some Som Tom Salad

I don’t mind food photos, even when they clog up my Instagram feed or distract me from my dinner companion. As long as they are interesting and tell me something I don’t know or might not have experienced otherwise, I think they are a great expression of social networking. I spotted today’s Photo of the Day in the Gadling Flickr pool taken by Ladyexpat of a Som Tom Salad. This turns out to be the Thai version of a green papaya salad. Not sure how she grated those amazing shapes that look like waffle fries, but the dish is a combination of the four local flavors: hot chili, tart lime, sweet sugar and savory fish sauce. The photo is full of color, texture, and the brightly painted nails and jewelry give it character. I’ll have what she’s having!

Photo Of The Day: Bicycle In Penang

Penang, Malaysia, is an island that reverberates with art and history. Flickr user Lauren Irons captures the vibrancy of this fascinating destination in this image of a colorful bicycle taxi set against the bright blue walls of the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. On her blog, Lauren describes a visit filled with Hindu festivals and Buddhist temples. “Should you find yourself in Southeast Asia in the near future,” Lauren says, “I would highly recommend a trip to this charming little island.”

Photo Of The Day: The Official Sport Of Paris

This Photo of the Day, titled “The Official Sport Of Paris,” comes from Gadling Flickr pool member jrodmanjr who captured the image with a Canon EOS 7D and is part of a black and white set shot last July.

This one really hit home because people-watching at a sidewalk cafe is a big part of what traveling in Europe means to me. One of our favorite travel rituals is to find a sidewalk cafe with a good view, turn off the cell phones and just take it all in.

Here’s more from Jason’s photo set called Paris in Black and White-
