Photo Of The Day: Trekking Chadar

Today’s Photo of the Day sort of resembles what many of us will experience when traveling over the coming holiday week, or at least, it can feel like a trek. Flickr user arunchs shot this on the famous Chadar Trek, one of the most majestic but challenging in the world. These people are actually crossing the frozen Zanskar River in India, walking over the slippery and icy surfaces of the Himalayas, often carrying luggage on their backs in inhospitable conditions. Some Buddhist monks will walk across the chadar (ice) in their bare feet, so consider that next time you complain about removing your shoes for airport security.

Photo Of The Day: Cenote Suytun

I visited the Yucatan recently and stopped into Cenote Suytun when I was passing through Valladolid, Mexico. Photographer Ben Britz was with me and, without my knowing, he snapped this photo of me in the cenote. The natural reverb in the cavern was majestic. The sound of trickling water was the only sound reflecting that reverb. The water was aglow with a crisp blue-green color and we were the only people inside the cenote the entire time. It was a beautiful experience and I felt compelled to share the photo. If you’d like one of your photos to be considered for Photo Of The Day, just drop your photos into our Gadling Flickr Pool.

Photo Of The Day: The Walt Disney Concert Hall In Los Angeles

One of Downtown Los Angeles‘ great treasures is the Walt Disney Concert Hall, a Frank Gehry-designed structure home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Major Chorale. It is captured brilliantly in today’s Photo of the Day, taken by Flickr user Nan Palmero using a simple Canon Powershot S95. The sky’s brilliant blue casts a cool hue upon the structure’s stainless steel exterior, illuminating what is truly a building of the future.

Photo Of The Day: Amapala, Isla del Tigre

This Photo of the Day is titled “Amapala, Isla del Tigre” and comes from Gadling Flickr pool member Adalberto.H.Vega.

The scene is of the 316-square kilometer volcanic island of Isla del Tigre, not far from the Honduran mainland in the Gulf of Fonseca. Amapala is its only town, known for great seafood and getting lost in time.

Gadling Flickr pool member Adalberto.H.Vega makes Honduras his home and has an extensive library of images captured using an Olympus D-500 that clearly validate that ‘lost in time’ reputation. Vega is Director of Marketing and Product Development at MC Tours, a major Central America tour operator that operates in Honduras.

Photo Of The Day: Hampi

Hampi is a village in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important religious place. It is photographed here at sunset by Flickr user arunchs, who has captured a glorious fragment of time at the most poetic time of day.
