Photo Of The Day: Man Who Could Walk Through Walls

You know you’ve found a popular tourist attraction when you see a statue with a shiny spot. From Ireland‘s Blarney Stone to Istanbul‘s “weeping” column in Hagia Sophia, visitors love any place that has brought luck to others. Today’s Photo of the Day, by Flickr user Kumukulanui, is from Paris‘ Montmartre, and of Jean Marais’ sculpture “The Man Who Could Walk Through Walls.” Based on a short story, it’s believed that if you touch his left hand, you might be able to pass through some walls yourself, or at least take some zany pictures giving him a high five.

Add your lucky travel photos to the Gadling Flickr Pool and we’ll choose the shiniest for a future Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: The Ganges River At Dawn

Sometimes, the most poignant travel imagery is captured before the destination has even woken up. Take, for instance, today’s Photo of the Day, taken by Flickr user Calvin Lee on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India. Later in the day, the river will be filled with pilgrims engaging in religious rituals, tourists taking photos of them and the hustlers that inevitably follow the tourists. But in this image, taken at dawn, you can practically hear the silence.

Do you have any evocative travel photos of destinations at dawn? Upload your shots to the Gadling Flickr Pool and your image could be selected as our Photo of the Day.

Photo Of The Day: Nice Tail

This Photo of the Day comes from Gadling Flickr pool member Gus NYC who captured this image taken in St. Maarten titled “Nice Tail” with an Olympus E-M5.

Gus captions the image:

“Boeing 737, Copa Airlines, taking off from SXM, St. Maarten, Princess Julianna. Notice at the heat coming from the runway. I like to see the details of the plane. Check out the big version pressing L.”

Upload your best shots to the Gadling Group Pool on Flickr. Several times a week we choose our favorite images from the pool as Photos of the Day.

Tips for getting featured: in your Flickr account, check “Privacy and Permissions,” and check “yes” on “Allow others to share your stuff.” Adding information about your image does not hurt your chances either.

Photo Of The Day: Skradinski Buk

Skradinski Buk is a natural pool with waterfalls located in Krka National Park in Croatia’s Dalmatia. The area of natural beauty is visually arresting enough to wrest seaside-focused tourists inland for a few hours. This fact by itself is really saying something, as the Dalmatian coast is exquisitely lovely in the summer.

This image was snapped by Flickr user mmusnjak, who has lots of other great photos of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in his Flickr photostream.

Photo Of The Day: Fantastic Voyage

Today’s Photo of the Day is a lovely Renaissance fresco from Rome‘s Villa Farnesina, taken by Flickr user AlexSven. It’s not the most famous artwork from the museum, that of Raphael’s “Triumph of Galatea,” but it depicts another voyage of the gods. It’s what we all hope our travel will be: swift, elegant and a bit magical. The mode of travel, chariot pulled by a pair of oxen, is as old-fashioned as it gets, and a group of hidden angels assure safe passage for the rider. May your next trip be as smooth.

Upload your magical voyages to Gadling’s Flickr pool for another Photo of the Day.
