Photo of the day: Ring Road, Iceland

I wish I were in Iceland right now. I’m not. Instead, I’m sitting at home writing in Austin where, as far as I can tell, the only ice is in the freezer. (Ouch. Bad pun?) But my friend Sarah Landau just wrapped up an honestly epic journey in Iceland. Traveling hundreds and hundreds of miles by car, she recently road-tripped around Iceland.

Iceland’s Ring Road
, also known as Route 1, is a main road in the country and it connects the habitable areas of Iceland (Iceland’s inland is mostly uninhabited). The road stretches around for 832 miles and, if you read any reviews of the drive, you’ll find that a lot of people refer to Iceland’s Ring Road as the drive of their lifetime. And man, I want to do it! But until I get to do it myself, I’ll marvel at the photos Sarah has shared with me. This shot above was taken on the Southern coast of Iceland.

Photo of the Day- Kensington Gardens

Called “I need a break” this photo from Flicker contributor Marco Musnjak shows chairs in Hyde Park on a cloudy summer day taken in Kensington Gardens, London, England using a Nikon D90.

Offering a wide variety of compositions using a variety of cameras, Marco’s photostream is one you’ll want to visit.

We want to see your work too. Upload an image to Flickr’s Gadling Group Pool. Chosen images end up as future Photos of the Day.

Photo of the day – Cunningham Cabin, Grand Tetons

Today’s Photo of the Day was snapped last summer by JasonBechtel inside the famous Cunningham Cabin in Grand Teton National Park. The sky, mountains, and clouds contrast startlingly with the log cabin interior, presenting a skillfully handled double framing. The contrast is so sharp that it almost looks fake.

We’re fans of JasonBechtel, and in fact today’s selection isn’t his first visit to our rodeo. But even if you’ve never submitted an image to us for consideration, don’t be shy. We want to see your work. Upload an image or several to Flickr’s Gadling Group Pool. Chosen images end up as future Photos of the Day.

Photo of the day – The Old Man and the Sea

Context is a funny thing. If this man were, say, working on his car in Passaic, New Jersey, we wouldn’t find him very romantic or interesting. But put him on a boat on the Adriatic Sea in Slovenia and he’s now a perfect travel photo subject, thanks to Flickr user SummitVoice1. He makes us sigh and think, “That’s the life. Just a man, a simple boat and the open water.”

He should still probably put on a clean shirt, though. Fare thee well, old salt, hope your day is smooth sailing!

Find a classic travel subject for your photos? Post your favorites to the Gadling Flickr pool and we may use one for a future Photo of the Day.

Video of the Day: Is this a real car accident?

We love road trips here at Gadling. Avoiding the stress of air travel, stopping at random landmarks and bonding with friends make road tripping a fantastic vacation option. Driving, however, can be dangerous. You have to look out for potholes, aggressive drivers and random pieces of wood that come shooting at your windshield. We have no idea if this video is real (why was someone just randomly filming the ride and not talking?) but is sure gave us a scare. Car accident videos – real or fake – remind us to drive safely, buckle up and always keep our eyes on the road.
