Photo of the day – Flamenco in motion

When you see flamenco, you probably think Spain, but today’s beautiful photo was taken by the prolific Flavio@Flickr near Tel Aviv, Israel. It’s a beautiful image of movement, color, and light; you even get a sense of music. The sensuality and drama of the dance is refreshing to see compared with many of the serious and spiritual shots we often see from Israel travelers.

Video of the Day: The Difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England

Have you been to England? What about Great Britain? How about the United Kingdom? Perhaps you just have no clear idea how to use those terms properly. Lest you tick off an Irishman or embarrass yourself at a pub, you may want to take a gander at the video above that quickly and humorously explains just what England, Great Britain and the UK are.

There’s no shame in not understanding the difference between these three terms. Heck, I learned a view things from this video and have Gadling’s own Jeremy Kressmann to thank for that. He tweeted this video last week. See, it pays to follow us Gadling folks on the ol’ internets.

Photo of the day – Charles de Gaulle departure board

Today’s Photo of the Day, snapped by Gadling’s good friend Paul Brady, depicts an enormous Charles de Gaulle departure board. Perhaps nothing excites a frequent traveler like a departure board at a major international hub of an airport, with its long tallies of destinations both relatively close-by and intercontinental. This one, with its dramatic goldenrod, is especially exciting.

Mr. Brady snapped this photograph on Monday. Careful observers will note that flights to Cairo and Oslo were cancelled that day.

Have any images around that call to mind transit on a global scale? Upload them to the Gadling group on Flickr and we might just select one as a future Photo of the Day.

Video of the Day – Tarp surfing

Some surfers travel to the ends of the Earth in search of the perfect barrel. When the swell isn’t picking up, others get creative and only have to go as far as their front yards. Today’s Video of the Day from Kordoruy.tv is a look at a few groms from San Juan Capistrano, California that started the unique sport of “tarp surfing”.

Avid surfers Dodge Wyrath and Wyatt Brady came up with the idea after a gust of wind blew a tarp off of the family boat, and they wondered what it would be like to surf through a “barrel” created by pulling the tarp over a skateboard. The result is visually captivating and makes for a great video segment.

Photo of the Day: Ansel Adams Wilderness

Arctic explorer Fridtjof Nansen said, “The first great thing is to find yourself, and for that you need solitude and contemplation, at least sometimes. I tell you deliverance will not come from the rushing, noisy centers of civilization. It will come from the lonely places.”

The wilderness calls to us all, and it’s easy to see why in this beautiful shot by Buck Forester from Gadling’s flickr pool. It’s of the famous “minarets” above Lake Ediza in the Ansel Adams Wilderness in California. I love how Buck captured the early morning light on the peaks, and how the stream softens the bottom half of the photo in contrast to the jagged rocks above.

Do you have a great photo of the wilderness? Share it with us in Gadling’s flickr pool and you may end up as a Photo of the Day!
