For most of you readers in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring is (finally) here! That means it’s time to start dusting off that outdoor gear and getting out into the springtime sun.

This perfectly timed shot was captured on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri by photographer Graham Dodd. I love how the light is captured in this photo – and the incredible detail of the water particles suspended in the frame. Nice shot Graham!

Gadling first wrote about the secret pleasures of New York City’s Coney Island back in May. Brooklyn’s very own quirky seaside amusement area boasts a vintage rollercoaster, beach access and the annual Mermaid Parade. Coney Island is also a particularly “atmospheric” place, as Flickr user cmvoelkel captured in today’s shot. The park’s famous Wonder Wheel strikes an eerie silhouette against the fading pinks and purples of the setting sun. The shapes and textures of the fence and barbed wire add further visual intrigue.

Photo of the Day (8.15.09)

When I think of the word “silhouette” I think of that old 50’s song about a guy watching a couple kissing in the silhouette of a window shade. There’s something special about silhouettes that make me want to sigh. This particular photograph also makes me smile. You can tell a lot from the hats the men here are wearing and the exchange is a friendly one between two (or maybe three) cultures.

Based on the title of this photo, “Primera Venta” (“First Sale”), our photographer of the day, penton42, captured a pretty sweet moment in rural Guatemala.

I decided to stay home this Memorial Day weekend, but this shot is making me rethink my decision. Flickr user brw9100 caught this sunset snap near Captiva, Florida. The silhouette of the bird adds a nice focal point to this beautiful setting. Make sure to invite me to your beach house next time, OK?
