Delta airlines puts elderly woman on wrong flight due to boarding pass mix-up

In a Top 10 of phone calls you probably don’t want to receive from an airport official: “Your grandmother was found in baggage claim.”

Eighty-year-old Nefissa Yesuf’s Sunday Atlanta to Dulles flight didn’t go quite as planned. CNN reports that airline and airport staff failed to notice that a Delta employee had allegedly given her someone else’s boarding pass by mistake. Yesuf, who is from Ethiopia and doesn’t speak English, instead ending up landing in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Yusef’s granddaughter, Melika Adem, says she received a call from the airport telling her Yusef had been found in baggage claim, crying. According to Adem, Delta gave her grandmother someone else’s ticket, and an airline employee then wheeled her through security, where no one caught the snafu. Adem also states that the name on Yusef’s boarding pass wasn’t even “close” to her grandmother’s. Fortunately, the two women were reunited Sunday evening.

The incident is under investigation by both Delta and the TSA. TSA officers are required to match boarding passes with a passenger’s driver’s license, passport, or other photo identification. Says TSA representative Greg Soule,”Every day TSA screens nearly two million passengers and utilizes many layers of security to keep our nation’s transportation systems secure,” he said. “Every passenger passes through multiple layers of security to include thorough screening at the checkpoint.”

President’s Day fun: Madame Tussauds presidential gallery opens in Washington DC

Back in December, we told you that Madame Tussuads’ Washington, D.C. location was going to be getting a significant upgrade – the first-ever President’s Gallery, an entire wing and exhibit dedicated to the 44 men who have served our country as Commander in Chief. Just in time for President’s Day, the gallery opened this past weekend, featuring 12 dedicated rooms and numerous interactive exhibits.

We thought you might enjoy this great photograph of the “arrival,” displaying all of the figures gathered at D.C.’s Union Station.

Luxury travel: Presidential Suite at Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC

There’s no denying that power is the top player in Washington DC. From the White House to the Capitol Building to the endless red leather, cherry wood restaurants that have housed heads of state for martini lunches over the years. Still, Washington DC has a few hidden gems worthy of an ambassador or two.

Mandarin Oriental Washington DC‘s recently renovated presidential suite is anything but ‘under the radar’ in this high-powered city. On a brief stop to Washington DC, I had the opportunity to explore the 3,500-square-foot space and overwhelmed by the idea of high-level meetings happening in his luxe space. The Presidential Suite in the Mandarin Oriental Washington DC offers 3,500-square-feet of space for a nightly rate of $10,000. The three-bedroom suite comes complete with a living room, kitchen, full bathrooms and separate dining area, but it’s the “great room” that steals the show.

The massive room offers enough seating for a cabinet meeting (or a little less) and to help inspire the attendees, features views of The Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument and Jefferson Memorial, and on clear days you can see all the way to the Capitol Building.

The adjacent study which connects the living room to the bedroom has been made into a cozy annex for respite and intimate meetings. A small nook off the master bathroom has enough space for a treadmill – the perfect accessory for a jetlagged traveler needing to work off some energy.
