This Photo of the Day is titled “Landing at SXM” and comes from Gadling Flickr pool member Gus NYC using an Olympus E-M5 camera. The image was taken at Maho Beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of St Maarten.
This photo is no optical illusion either; aircraft come in low over the beach in order to hit the short runway at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Spotting planes coming in for a landing is so popular that local beach bars and restaurants have airline schedules posted so viewers will know when to be alert for landings.
