Here’s a new twist on tourism. In Bangkok, you can now
visit death row at the
Bang Kwang maximum-security prison and meet with prisoners, bring them food, hang out and chat. How odd. Apparently the
whole idea was partly inspired by a movie “Brokedown Palace” and a book called
“The Damage Done,” written by Warren Fellows,
an Australian who spent 12 years in Thai prison for trafficking heroin. Don’t know about you, but I’m imagining a mix
of “Midnight Express” and “The Beach”. So now a visit to Bangkok will allow you to spend your day hanging out with
new convict buddies at a maximum-security prison, and then while away the evening hours in Pat Pong. That’s some sweet
vacation.
