It’s been a while since I highlighted an individual’s site, so I thought I’d throw
this one out there. Notes from the Road calls itself a “project in
experimental travel writing”. I suppose. But it’s not the writing that makes this site so good. It’s the photos.
The site is a series of glorious pages with large photographs as mind-blowingly elegant and well-composed as
you will find anywhere.
Erik Gauger says he shoots the photos with a large format
Toyo AX, an old-style traditional print
film camera that weighs forty pounds. Which was actually quite comforting to me since if he’d said he shot them
digitally, I would have wondered what the hell I’ve been doing wrong with my New
D-SLR Nikon. No matter. This is a site that deserves some
time clicking around. Me babbling on about how nice the pictures are is not going to do them justice. Just check it out
yourself.
